Tunn sets new women’s course record at Reay with score of 67
Last week’s Quinlan Trophy was one for the history books at Reay Golf Club as a spectacular performance by Eleanor Tunn saw her beat her own women’s course record by a shot.
After a bogey at the first, her first birdie of the evening quickly followed at the second. Further bogeys at the fifth and ninth were offset by a birdie at the seventh, to see her reach the turn in a score of one-over-par 36.
After a run of pars from the 10th to the 12th, the fireworks began with a run of three birdies at the 13th, 14th and 15th holes.
Solid pars followed at the 16th and 17th, leaving Tunn standing on the 18th needing a birdie to beat her existing record of 68. A superb birdie at the final hole saw her finish on a score of 67, with an inward half of four-under-par 31.
Her score of nett 64 was good enough to win the Quinlan Trophy by a margin of two shots, and on current form it will not be long before the course record is under threat again.

A strong finish helped Jane Mackenzie take second place with a fine score of nett 66. Pam Bain, who was Eleanor’s playing partner on the night, finished third following an impressive round of 79 for nett 67, with a birdie at the seventh boosting her score.
A steady round saw Alison Ross take fourth on nett 69.
Round two of the women’s Summer Stableford also saw some excellent scoring with Heather Campbell finishing top of the leaderboard on an excellent 38 points. A birdie at the 13th saw Rebecca Munro take second place on countback after she also finished on 38.
Steady performances resulted in Jacqui Greig and Carole Cameron finishing in third and fourth places respectively on 37.
In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Kenny Farmer Snr topped the standings on 39 points following a fine round of 83. A trio of players, Hugh Millar, Pete McCartney and Peter Barker, finished next best on 37 points, with McCartney firing a birdie at the 14th during his round.
Alex Anderson won the nearest-the-pin prize courtesy of the sponsors.
The first two rounds of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup have been high-scoring affairs, and round three was no exception with Mike Halliday topping the standings on a fantastic 43 points.
He was helped to his tally by a birdie at the 18th and a spectacular eagle three at the fourth where he holed his 5 wood approach shot from 200 yards.
Birdie machine Tom Ross finished in second place on 40 points, with this week’s “tweeters” coming at the fifth, ninth, 13th, 14th and 15th holes.
Eight pars helped Donald Mowat to third place on 39 points, with a steady round from Jack Halliday helping him to 38 points. A birdie at the 15th helped James Swan match Halliday’s tally of 38.
This Saturday will see the men competing for the Beinn Ratha Trophy, while on Sunday they will be playing in the second and final round of the Dunnett Cup.
