Heather Campbell has just completed her first year after taking part in 'come and try' nights.

Reay Golf Club's successful "come and try" sessions are returning for the fourth year in a row.

They begin on Wednesday, April 19, for both women and men, and will continue for four consecutive weeks.

The women's class will run from 6.30-7.30pm, followed by the men from 7.30-8.30pm. Coaching is free of charge and equipment will be supplied each week.

The club council believes this is the perfect opportunity to try out golf.

Carol Paterson, from the ladies' management group, said: “With the nights stretching and the weather improving, it’s the best time to start. It gives beginners a chance to get the basics correct from the get-go, meet up with others who are just starting out and have some fun on the course.

"Our 'come and try' sessions have proved to be successful and we’d like to continue this. Golf is a great sport – all the family can play it, it's great for body and mind, it's super for your wellbeing, it's played in beautiful surroundings and it has such a fun social side to it."

Heather Campbell took up golf after last year’s "come and try" sessions.

She said: “Over the years I have enjoyed playing lots of sports, but golf was one I had never thought of trying until we moved to Reay. With my partner James and my son Harry both members at Reay I would tag along and watch them play.

"I decided to give the 'come and try' night a bash so we could all go out as a family and play. The coaches were great, encouraging and very patient.

"After the four weeks of lessons, I then joined the ladies on Thursday nights. It was great to play nine holes with the other non-handicap players and I learnt a lot from them.

"Thursday nights end in the clubhouse with all the ladies for some tea, coffee and biscuits and a chance to chat about everyone’s golf that night.

"I have continued to play over the winter, and I have managed to get a handicap. I’m looking forward to getting out with the handicapped players this summer and I’m sure I will learn a lot from them all.

"Golf can be a very frustrating game, but it only takes one good shot to forget all the bad ones. I would totally recommend the free 'come and try' lessons for anyone thinking about golf.

"I have made so many new friends and I can’t thank the ladies of Reay Golf Club enough for their help, encouragement and support throughout the past year. I’m now hooked on golf, and I wish I’d started sooner."

Anyone interested in going along, or who has any questions, can email inforeay@gmail.com or make contact through the club's social media pages.
