Seventeen additional Covid-19 coronavirus infections detected in the NHS Highland health board area

SEVENTEEN new Covid-19 infections have been detected across NHS Highland in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic rose from 4487 to 4504 when the latest daily update was published on Friday.

The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals fell by three to 28. The number of those in intensive care remained unchanged on five.

There were 885 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – representing 4.4 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Some 1222 people were being treated for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – 39 fewer than the day before.

Of those, 98 were in intensive care. This was up three from Thursday’s update.

And sadly there were 31 further deaths among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases of the virus in the Northern Isles, but NHS Eileanan Siar recorded two positive tests – taking its cumulative total to 260.

There were 28 new infections in NHS Grampian, which has now recorded 13,231 confirmed cases since last spring.

And NHS Tayside’s total rose to 12,856 after it registered 31 cases in the past 24 hours.

There have now been 195,839 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Another 31,186 people received their first dose of the vaccine in the most recent 24 hour window. This has taken the total to 1,386,152.
