Halkirk businesswoman’s award success as her company wins ‘Best Music Event Business 2025’

A Halkirk businesswoman has plenty to sing about after she picked up a major award as ‘Best Music Event Business 2025’ at an event in Glasgow’s Grand Ole Opry.

Lorraine Christie originally hails from Thurso and says she set up LWC Events Ltd in 2023 after having worked at Ross County Football Club for nine years.

“I plan, manage and execute events and deal with every detail from conception to completion,” says Lorraine.

“I mainly deal with music events, working with Scottish and English artists, but the majority come from Ireland.”

On Sunday (June 29), Lorainne attended the Scottish Country Music Awards in Glasgow’s Grand Ole Opry and was delighted to receive an award for ‘Best Music Event Business 2025’. “I was up against five other event businesses throughout Scotland, and I was the only representative from the Highlands.

“It was a great honour to receive it and such an achievement as it was voted by customers as part of the voting element. The Grand Ole Opry was definitely the right place for these awards. It was very well supported and very well attended. I was excited and nervous but proud I had got to the finals, considering the standard of the competition was very high.”

Straight after she received the award, it was announced that a country band from Golspie called Colorado was to be inducted into the Scottish Country Music Hall of Fame. Lorraine said she found this particularly fitting. “When I was growing up in Caithness, Colorado was a great influence and inspirational band for me.”

Lorraine says her line of work is “not easy” and can be quite challenging at times. “It was nice to pick this up for all the hard work I’ve put in. I’m continually striving to improve and make it good for customers and musicians.

“I was the only business from the Highlands at the event, so it was nice to take something back to the Highlands.”

Though she may seem a background figure when representing a band or musician, Lorraine says she thrives on the positive feedback she receives after a successful event has been staged.

“That’s what makes it so worthwhile,” she adds.
