THIRTY-seven new Covid-19 cases have been detected across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of infections rose from 4450 to 4487 when the Scottish Government released the latest daily figures on Thursday.

The number of people being treated for Covid-19 in NHS Highland hospitals also increased – rising by three to 31.

But the number of those in intensive care fell by two, and now stands at five.

Across Scotland there were 685 positive tests in the past 24 hours – representing 3.8 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Some 1261 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, a fall of 56 from yesterday.

And there were four fewer people in intensive care after the total fell to 95.

But sadly a further 57 deaths were recorded among people who had tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, only Shetland went without recording any additional cases in the past day. NHS Orkney had one new positive test – for a cumulative tally of 70 – and there were four fresh cases in NHS Eileanan Siar, which has now had 258 known infections since the pandemic began.

On the mainland, NHS Grampian’s tally rose by 26, to 13,203. And NHS Tayside registered 44 new positive tests, for a total of 12,825.

There have been 194,594 confirmed cases across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

The number of people in Scotland who have received at least one vaccination jag increased by another 34,982, and now stands at 1,354,966.
