Public praised for supporting Wick Society's series of heritage book sales
THE Wick Society's series of fundraising heritage book sales proved to be a resounding success – and it's possible there will be a further opportunity to pick up a bargain ahead of Christmas.
Volunteers manned a stall outside the old herring mart at the town's harbour on each of the five Saturdays in August.
On sale were copies of many of the annual books of nostalgic photos produced by North of Scotland Newspapers that have been donated to the local museum group. The society's new collection of recipes, Traditional Treats, was also available along with other publications of local interest and museum merchandise such as coasters and tea towels.
The recipe book is also being stocked by two local cafés.
Wick Society chairman Ian Leith said: “We’re delighted with the response from the public, and their generosity in terms of not just buying the books but giving contributions.

“We would hope to have another similar sale at an indoor venue maybe a couple of times before the festive season so that people can have a final chance to get their Christmas pressies.
"The recipe book Traditional Treats has gone very well, and for that we’re also very grateful to Morag’s café and Wicker’s World for selling it. We’re appreciative of what they have done for us."
The museum in Bank Row has remained closed during 2020 because of the pandemic.
