One person was taken to hospital after a crash at a junction in Wick on Monday morning.

Police and ambulance services attended the incident which involved two vehicles at traffic lights on Francis Street.

The incident occurred at the traffic lights and junction between Dempster Street, Francis Street, Thurso Street and Cliff Road.

One of the vehicles is believed to belong to Network Rail.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.05am on Monday, July 5, officers were called to the Francis Street area of Wick following a report of a two-car road crash.

"Two men were taken to hospital for treatment and vehicle recovery was arranged.”

Updated information came in from the Scottish Ambulance Service (Sas) later on, however, which said that only one man was taken to the nearby Caithness General Hospital.

A Sas spokesperson said: “We received a call today at 1011 hours to attend a road traffic collision in Wick. We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and transported one male patient to Caithness General Hospital.”

A police officer was observed managing traffic at the busy junction this morning until the vehicles could be removed.

Recent incidents have occurred at or around the same junction with some locals calling it an accident blackspot.
