THURSO Golf Club retained the Wilson Cup following the annual tournament held in Whalsay in Shetland for the first time in its 108-year?history.

The event is staged between the golf clubs in Shetland, Orkney and Caithness and this year was a resounding success.

The competition followed the usual format with the eight teams drawn in two groups. The winners in each section contested the final.

Results – Saturday morning, group “A”: Whalsay beat Thurso by three holes; Lybster beat Wick by two holes. Group “B”: Stromness beat Reay by 12 holes; Kirkwall beat Dale by five holes.

Saturday afternoon: Whalsay lost to Lybster by four holes; Thurso beat Wick by four holes; Stromness lost to Dale by four holes.

Sunday morning: Kirkwall beat Stromness by five holes; Dale beat Reay by two holes; Wick beat Whalsay by one hole; Thurso beat Lybster by 11 holes.

Final: Thurso beat Kirkwall by five holes.

Next year’s Wilson Cup is to be staged at Lybster for the first time.
