Thurso will begin their quest to climb off the bottom of the North Caledonian League when they play host to champions Golspie this weekend.

The Vikings dropped to the foot of the table on goal difference as a consequence of Inverness Athletic's victory last weekend.

Michael Bremner's men know all about Golspie's firepower, having suffered a 7-2 thumping at King George V Park at the start of December.

The Vikings were seriously short of personnel that night but Bremner will have more options this time.

“We're hoping to have a stronger squad," he said. "The last time we were depleted quite a bit.

"It's always a tough game and Golspie could do that to any team, really.

“We'll just hope that we turn up on the day and put a good performance in. That's the main thing, and hopefully we get a result on the back of that.

"To beat one of the leading teams would get everybody buzzing again.”

Thurso – who have played only two league fixtures since the turn of the year – were joined on the nine-point mark by Inverness Athletic after the latter beat Nairn County "A" 3-1. The Vikings have four games in hand on the Highland capital side, but their marginally inferior goal difference means they are now propping up the table.

“That wasn't good viewing at the weekend," Bremner said. “We've not been able to get training with this weather but we've all been chatting and we're not happy about being bottom. The main thing is to rise up a wee bit."

Goalkeeper Asa Sinclair should return but James Murray is likely to be unavailable for the remainder of the season.

The Golspie match is provisionally booked for the Dammies but it could be switched to Naver.

Fixtures: Saturday, February 26 – North Caledonian League: Loch Ness v Invergordon (2pm); Orkney v St Duthus (12.30pm); Nairn County "A" v Inverness Athletic (2pm); Thurso v Golspie (2pm).

North Caledonian Cup quarter-final: Halkirk United v Alness United (2pm).
