There was a super turnout of 72 golfers for the season-opening Captain versus Vice-Captain challenge at Thurso Golf Club.

Captain Willie Durrand was unavailable to play so his son Ben Durrand stepped in for him, teeing off the first ball of the season on Saturday as he went up against vice-captain Stephen Williamson.

There were two sets of pairs from each team on each hole for a shotgun start, and they enjoyed sunny weather all day.

With all the teams coming in at the same time, scores were tight early on but the vice-captain’s team prevailed 11-7.

The competition was followed by the prize-giving for the 2023 season.

Sunday saw the Captain’s Prize, with more fine weather on course. Iain Dunnet won the Captain’s Prize with a fabulous 40 points, one ahead of Tyler Gordon.
