The A&A Mackay Builders summer league saw a thrilling climax at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday.

Eight points separated the top 10 prior to the final round, so it was all to play for.

The leader Steven Osbourne failed to better his worse score on a difficult day and the only golfer to shoot below par was Steven Lowe with 38 points.

Lowe (13) was out in 19 points and he made a great start to the back nine with four pars and two bogies. The 16th was a no score but he returned two points at the 17th. However, a birdie at the 18th saw him back in 19 points for a total of 38.

This saw him tie for first place with Osbourne. However, the ruling in the event of a tie is the golfer with the highest ‘lowest score’ wins, which was Lowe with 34 points compared to Osborne’s 31.

So after 20 rounds the top four were separated by just one point with Lowe crowned the champion after a birdie on the last hole of a stunning round.

Final standings: 1 Steven Lowe, 288 points. 2 Steven Osborne, 288. 3= Alan Coghill, 287. 3= James Moodie, 287. 5= Mark Foubister, 283. 5= Andrew Main, 283. 5= Alan Swanson, 283. 8 Gary Ronnie, 282. 9= Ian MacDonald, 280. 9= Jim Mcleod, 280.
