Thurso players in three-way tie

Played in the Stableford format, there was a three-way tie with Darren Sinclair, Jocky Begg and Jim Hawthorn returning scores of 37 points.

After starting with a no-score at the first hole and reaching the turn in 15 points, Sinclair proceeded to play the second nine holes in two over par for 21 points.

His inward half was good enough to ensure first place from the improving Begg who covered the back nine holes in 19 points. Hawthorn made his score on the first half of the course where he collected 20 points.

Pat Valentine and Steve Spargo amassed 36 points each. Spargo went to the turn in one over par for 20 points. However, Valentine got one more point than Spargo on the second nine holes to take fourth.

Three players scored 35 points and finished in the order of Innes Mitchell, Harvey Cowe and Hamish Boyd. Andrew Main and Neil Jackson were a point further back.

Eight teams of two contested the Pollock Rosebowl in the Greensome format.

Best pairing on the day was Keith Dreaves and Pat Valentine who returned a score of nett 68. One shot more was required by Kevin Morris and Alan S. Mackenzie who took second spot.

Countback was needed to determine third place where the duo of Alan Simmonite and Donald Sutherland got the nod over Terry Mackay and Ian Macdonald after both teams had finished with nett 70.
