Thurso Golf Club: Fern takes honours in May Extra Medal

The weather has been kind to the ladies of Thurso Golf Club in the past few weeks, resulting in some good scoring.
Last week saw the May Extra Medal and the second round of the club championship qualifier.
Fern Mackay took the honours by the better inward half with a gross 94, nett 69. A good run of pars on 12, 13, 14 and 16 secured a solid back nine.
Also with a 69 was handicap champion Fiona McLeod, putting her in a great position to qualify again to defend her title
Three ladies all had scores of nett 71, with Moira McBeath taking third spot ahead of Lyndsay Stott and Sandra Rollinson. A birdie three on the 15th clinched it for Moira.
This week saw the Coronation Foursomes, a pairs event.
Taking top spot this year, and now heading south to represent Thurso Golf Club, are the strong team of Morag Mackay and Isobel Mackay with 33 points, beating Aileen Simmonite and Fern Mackay who had a steady 31.
One further back were Isla Mackay and Anne Simmonite.
Thurso hosted this year's County Pairs on May 14. The weather was not kind, with pouring rain for the first 12 holes
The pairing of Reay’s Rebecca Munro and Heather Campbell took the trophy with a fantastic 64. Rebecca managed to birdie the first and 13th holes to secure the victory.
Runners-up were Thurso’s Aileen Simmonite and Alison Campbell with a steady 66, followed closely by Thurso’s Laura and Rachel Durrand with a 67 including a birdie on the second from Laura.
