The action on the Reay links has been of a stop-start nature during the last couple of weeks, with snow and ice curtailing the golf. However, when play has been possible, there have been some good scores in tricky conditions.

Round three of the gents' winter eclectic was played in a strong breeze with squally showers, but this did not deter Malcolm Thomson who fired excellent halves of 41 and 38 for a score of 79 – giving him a winning nett 69.

Stuart Greig birdied the 12th on his way to a round of 84 for nett 73 and second place on the day. Ian Farquhar and David R Craig were next best, both playing solid golf in the breeze to share third place on nett 74.

After three rounds, Stuart Greig leads the overall eclectic standings on 63, ahead of eclectic specialist Lee Parnell on 64 and Cammie Ross on 65.

In round 10 of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition it was Donald Mowat who topped the standings after a solid round of 84 was good enough for 35 Stableford points.

Malcolm Thomson maintained his good December form to finish second on 34 points after a round of 34, with Murdo Macdonald taking third place on 31.

A photo finish was required to find the winner of round 11 of the Senior Stableford after four players finished on 36 points. In the final analysis it was Carol Paterson who got the nod after a birdie at the 13th helped her along the way.

Malcolm Thomson birdied the ninth on his way to second place, while Murdo Macdonald also birdied the ninth to help him bag third place.

Alex Anderson managed a brace of birdies at the sixth and ninth on his way to fourth.

Meanwhile, club greenkeeper Jason Norwood played as a guest of the seniors and he bagged a bottle of Crosskirk Bay gin from the sponsors for his nearest-the-pin effort at the final hole.

In the overall Senior Stableford standings Colin Struthers leads the way on a six-round aggregate score of 210, ahead of Malcolm Clasper on 203 and Alex Anderson on 201.

This Saturday (January 7) sees the club hosting the Ronnie Campbell Open with some excellent prizes up for grabs, both on the course and in the raffle, with all proceeds going to local cancer charities. For more information, see the Reay Golf Club Facebook and Twitter pages.
