Taylor roars to victory in February Medal at Reay

Players were back out force on the fairways of Reay at the weekend after a number of weeks when competitions were postponed due to wintry weather.

The lay-off had clearly done Andrew Taylor no harm as he roared to victory in the gents' February Medal with a fantastic score of 75 for nett 63. His halves of 38 and 37 included a birdie at the long 14th hole.

Kenny Farmer Snr compiled two steady halves 44 and 43 to take second place after his 87 gave him a fine nett 67.

Alex Anderson also played steady golf to take third place on nett 71 after an 83 made up of halves of 41 and 42.

David R Craig and Kenny Farmer Jnr were next best after both finished on nett 72.

In the ladies' February Medal, Sarah Meiklejohn secured a four-shot victory after an impressive round of 83 for nett 68. Carol Paterson finished in second place after a solid round of 82 for nett 72.

Rosalind McQuaker completed the podium places, finishing on nett 75, with Carole Cameron bagging fourth on nett 78.

The gents were back in winter eclectic action on Sunday, with the rescheduled December round seeing Simon Harper fire an excellent round of 78 for nett 71 to top the standings on the day.

Halves of 38 and 40 saw him edge out Kenny Farmer Snr on countback after he also finished on nett 71 following a round of 91. Steve Efemey birdied the 16th on his way to a round of 82 for nett 72 and third place.

In the overall eclectic standings Leslie Malcolm leads the way on a score of 65.5, ahead of nearest rivals Andrew Taylor (66.3), Stuart Greig (66.8) and Donald Mowat (66.9).

This Saturday sees the club host the Ronnie Campbell Open for teams of four players, with some excellent prizes available both on the course and in the charity auction. For further details see the Reay Golf Club social media channels.

Brora's Ross Naismith led a field of 58 players in Sunday's North Golf Winter Alliance fixture at his home course. His excellent scratch score of 68 featured five birdies on the front nine.

Darren Hexley (Golspie) was the category one winner, while Reay's Sarah Meiklejohn came out on top in the ladies' section.

Category two: 1 Roy Page (Lybster), 90, nett 74; 2 Jimmy Nimmons (Portmahomack), 89, nett 76 (BIH); 3 Chris Sutherland (Thurso), 90, nett 76.

Ladies: 1 Sarah Meiklejohn (Reay), 84, nett 70; 2 Anne Clark (Brora), 93, nett 73; 3 Eileen Manson (Thurso), 88, nett 77 (BIH).
