Superb inward half by Bain in latest round of Summer Cup
It was another week of excellent scoring at Reay, with plenty of action in the men’s, women’s and senior sections.
Willie Steven has been in impressive form of late and he continued his purple patch to win the President’s Salver after an excellent round of 76, made up of matching halves of 38, for nett 64.
Andrew Taylor had to settle for second after a birdie at the fifth helped him to a fine round of 75 for nett 65. Joe Wilson was also on the birdie trail, at the sixth, as he completed the podium places on nett 67 following a round of 81.
Two rounds of the ladies’ Summer Stableford were contested over the past week.
In round three a brace of birdies at the fifth and 16th saw Michelle Smith win round three on a fantastic tally of 45 points. A good back nine helped Julie Minchin to a great score of 43 points and second place, while a steady performance saw Pam Garbe finish third on 38.

Countback was required to determine the winner of round four after Alison Ross and Pauline Craig both finished on 36 points. In the final analysis it was Ross who claimed the victory after a fine round of 92, while Craig also played solid golf during her round of 91.
Heather Campbell took third place on 35 points after another steady performance.
There were birdies galore in the latest round of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup. Andy Bain secured the victory on 39 points after a superb inward half of 32 which included a hat-trick of birdies at the 13th, 15th and 17th holes.
Brent Munro was also a man on the birdie trail, firing a spectacular five birdies at the 5th, 10th, 13th, 14th and 16th, as he finished on 38 points. A solid performance from Murdo Macdonald allowed him to match Munro’s tally, while a birdie at the sixth saw Gavin Gunn also finishing on 38 points.
In the early overall standings, Murdo Macdonald leads on a four-round aggregate score, ahead of Summer Cup specialist Lee Parnell on 146 and Ian Farquhar on 143.
In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, birdies at the sixth and ninth helped Colin Struthers to the win on an excellent 42 points. A birdie at the 15th from Fred Groves saw him take second on 38, edging out Dave Gisbey on countback after birdies at the sixth and 15th saw him end on a matching tally of 38.
This weekend sees the club co-hosting the NC500 Links Open, sponsored by Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd and CS Drilling Services. Round one will be played at Wick on Saturday, with the second and final round played at Reay on Sunday.
