Silverware goes to Greig after six rounds of eclectic action at Reay

After a week of inactivity due to the recent cold snap, golfers were able to get back on to the links at Reay for some competitive action.

In the final round of the gents' Winter Eclectic it was Stuart Greig who topped the standings after an excellent round of 84 for nett 71 in cold and windy conditions. Solid matching halves of 42 included a solitary birdie at the fifth.

Andy Bain took second place on countback ahead of Wayne Mowat after both posted scores of 79 for nett 72. Bain’s round comprised halves of 40 and 39, while Mowat managed to bag a brace of birdies, at the fifth and ninth holes.

A trio of players, Lee Parnell, Steve Efemey and David A Craig, finished on nett 73, and each managed a solitary birdie during their rounds. Parnell's and Efemey’s came at the 16th, while Craig bagged his at the seventh.

After six rounds of action, in the final eclectic standings Stuart Greig took the silverware with an excellent score of 58. Cammie Ross finished runner-up on 59, with Wayne Mowat completing the podium places on 61.

In the latest winter league Stableford action it was David R Craig who finished first after a fine round of 82 gave him a score of 39 points, with a birdie at the third providing the highlight.

Kenny Farmer Snr posted a solid round of 37 points to take second place, while Cammie Ross managed birdies at the sixth and 12th on his way to 36 points and third place.

In the overall winter league Stableford standings, Donald Mowat leads the way on a six-round aggregate score of 218, ahead of David R Craig on 217 and Jimmy Meiklejohn and John O’Brien, who are both on 211.

The ladies were in action in round six of their winter Stableford competition, with the wind and drizzle providing difficult conditions for scoring. Amanda Snashall played steadily to take the win on 36 points, ahead of Sarah Meiklejohn on 35, Heather Campbell on 28, Pam Bain on 27 and Pauline Craig on 25.

The senior section also managed to get some action as the snow thawed, playing an 18-hole competition over a composite course. Kenny Farmer Snr took the win on 35 points, ahead of Sandy Chisholm on 33 and David R Craig on 32.
