Sid Campbell (handicap 17) won Thurso Golf Club's A&A Mackay Summer League this week with 42 points.

Campbell got off to a steady start and back-to-back birdies at seven and eight saw him out in three over par. Again he was steady on the back nine, and a strong finish with three pars in the last four holes was more than enough for first place.

Robbie Powell (22) can hit the ball with the best of them, but just needs to find consistency. He birdied the 13th to return with 39 points, including three eights, which equated to no scores – otherwise he may have been closer to Campbell.

Ali Simpson (23) made a welcome return to the leader board with only his second round under par this year. Simpson was steady throughout and he bogeyed the last eight holes to return 38 points, beating Nicky Doherty (6) on countback.

Doherty birdied the sixth and 13th but lost a ball at the fourth.

George Munro (12) birdied the 14th and Andrew Main (7) had three birdies, at the fourth, seventh and 13th, as they also had 38 points.

Darren Sinclair (9) birdied the difficult 12th to complete the players with 38 points. Ronnie Gray (12) and Ian MacDonald (13) had 37 points, one ahead of Callum Mauchlen and Ross Williamson.
