Seniors battle testing conditions at Thurso

Considerable casual water and a tricky crosswind kept points totals down, with only four players beating the 30-point mark.

Encouraged by a four-point birdie at the second hole, Jim Telfer had an outward total of 19 points and added 17 more for a winning 36-point total.

Steady play by Bob Black saw him also get to the turn in 19 points but he came back in one point less than Telfer and had to settle for second.

Ronald Mackay and Pat Valentine both had 15 points on the way out and 16 more on the way in for 31-point totals.

The remaining rounds of the competition will be played on Tuesdays.

The ladies had their first Tuesday event during the week when they played an eight-hole Texas Scramble to ease them into the new season.
