Second junior badminton tournament attracts 'fantastic turnout' at Wick venue

Caithness Badminton Association held its second junior tournament for first to third-year high school pupils.

It went ahead at the East of Caithness Community Facility in Wick on Friday, November 19.

A total of 34 children competed, with organisers describing it as "a fantastic turnout".

The youngsters were split into year groups and the format ensured that all played the same number of games.

All the children had an enjoyable time back on the court and there were some great games and rallies throughout the competition, with plenty of evidence of new talent coming through.

The organisers said they were grateful to everyone who helped during the evening with umpiring and running the event.

Individual winners across the various age categories were Freya Swanson, Toby Sutherland, Grace Macintosh, Gregor Mill, Rebecca Nicolson and Finlay Swanson.

Results: S1 – Girls: Winner Freya Swanson, Thurso; runner-up Hallie Bremner, Wick. Boys: Winner Toby Sutherland, Thurso; runner-up Lewis Malcolm, Wick.

S2 – Girls: Winner Grace Macintosh, Thurso; joint runners-up Chloe Mackenzie, Thurso, and Antonia Beattie, Wick. Boys: Winner Gregor Mill, Thurso; runner-up Ronin Kean, Wick.

S3 – Girls: Winner Rebecca Nicolson, Wick; runner-up Amy Groat, Wick. Boys: Winner Finlay Swanson, Thurso; runner-up Lewis Swan, Thurso.
