PREMIERSHIP side Hibernian will travel north to help Wick Academy celebrate their 125th anniversary.

The capital club have agreed to come up to Harmsworth Park on Sunday, July 15, with a 2pm kick-off.

Hibs could still be in the preliminary rounds of the Europa League by then so some well-known faces may be rested for this one.

As chairman James Innes revealed, bringing the Hibees to Caithness has long been in the planning.

He said: “I’ve been working on this since February of this year. It is hard to get the top teams up north – not just because of our geographical status but also because of the League Cup schedule.

“The sides who didn’t qualify for Europe take part in that in July so that leaves our options limited.

“I decided to focus on getting one club instead of the usual scattergun approach of writing to everyone. I’ve good links with people in Edinburgh and they steered me towards Hibs.

“I met up with their head of football operations, George Gray, and basically sold both the club and Caithness to him. He thought it was a good idea and I’m delighted to be able to announce this fixture.”

George Gray of Hibernian said: “We are delighted to be taking a Hibernian XI to Wick to mark Wick Academy’s 125th anniversary.

“I’m sure it will be a great occasion for everyone involved at the club and we are pleased to be playing our part in commemorating the milestone.”
