A firm and fast-running course coupled with a week of sunshine provided the platform for some impressive scores to be recorded at Reay over the past week.

The Beinn Ratha Trophy was won by Kenny Farmer Jnr after a tremendous score of 84, made up of halves of 42, gave him a nett 61 which could have been even better but for a seven at the par-four 13th hole.

Halves of 35 and 37, aided by a birdie at the sixth, helped Gavin Gunn to second place on nett 62 following his round of 72.

Gregor Munro played some majestic golf, birdieing the third, fifth, 6th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 17th on his way to a round of 64, one short of the men’s course record. His nett 63 was good enough for third place on the day.

The standings in the second and final round of the Dunnett Cup were topped by Cammie Ross after a fine round of 78 gave him nett 68. Lee Parnell took second place on the day after an impressive round of 74 for nett 69.

No fewer than four players finished on nett 70, with a birdie at the 15th helping David Mackay take third place on countback ahead of Brent Munro who fired a hat-trick of birdies at the seventh, 10th and 14th holes.

Birdies at the third and sixth helped Steve Spargo to fifth place, while Calum Slattery fired a pair of spectacular eagles at the sixth and 16th plus birdies at the fourth and 11th to take sixth place.

Remarkably, the top three players in the overall results was a mirror image of the round two standings, with Cammie Ross taking home the trophy on 135. Parnell took second place on 137, with David Mackay edged to third on countback after he also finished on an aggregate score of 137.

Countback was also required to determine the winner of the ladies’ Sandside Salver, with some fine play over the closing holes seeing Pam Garbe take the win on nett 73.

A costly nine at the 14th stopped Alison Ross’s challenge in its tracks, and after some impressive play she had to settle for second place after joining Garbe on 73.

A fine run of pars on the back nine helped Rebecca Munro to third place after she fired a round of 85 for nett 74.

There was a three-way tie at the top of the standings in the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition, with Murdo Macdonald, Mike Halliday and Alistair Gunn all finishing on 38 points. After the numbers had been crunched, Macdonald took the win, with Halliday second and Gunn third.

The latest round of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup was also a high-scoring affair, with a birdie at the 13th helping Ian Farquhar to a winning total of 42 points. A birdie at the 13th was the highlight.

A birdie at the 15th helped Lee Parnell to a round of 71 and 39 points for second place. Murdo Macdonald had to settle for third on countback after a steady round also saw him amass 39 points.

This Saturday will see the ladies in Summer Stableford action, while the men will be playing for the President’s Salver.

Entries are available for the NC500 Open which Reay will be co-hosting with Wick Golf Club on May 31 and June 1. Details for entry can be found on the club’s social media pages.
