It was a fine day for golf on Saturday and players made the most of the conditions to shoot some excellent scores in the Texas Pairs competition at Reay.

The winning duo of Alex Anderson and David A Craig fired a red-hot round of 71 for nett 62, with birdies at the fifth, seventh, 12th and 15th helping them secure a two-shot victory.

Steve Efemey and Lee Parnell had to settle for second place on nett 64, but they did have the consolation of shooting the lowest gross score of the day with an excellent round of 67. Birdies at the second, fourth and 11th holes helped them to their runners-up spot.

Bruce Mackay and Cammie Ross took third place on countback after a round of 69 gave them a nett 65, with four birdies at the sixth, 13th, 14th and 18th helping them along the way.

Stuart Greig and David R Craig had to settle for fourth, also on nett 65, after a round of 72 which included birdies at the fourth and sixth holes. The low scoring was reflected in the fact that no fewer than five other pairs posted nett scores under 70.

Meanwhile, in the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Graham Harness topped the standings on a breezy day with a fine round of 36 points. A strong finish to his round was key to the victory as he covered the final six holes in only two over par.

Ian Ross produced matching halves of 40 for a solid round of 80 and 35 Stableford points to take second place.

Donald Mowat recovered from a slow start to take third place on 34 Stableford points after a round of 85, with Sandy Chisholm edged into fourth place on countback after he also accumulated 34 points.

David R Craig birdied the 13th on his way to 33 points and fifth place on the day.

In the overall standings Carol Paterson leads the way on a six-round aggregate score of 217, ahead of Colin Struthers on 216 and David R Craig on 214.
