Saturday saw Reay hosting its first open competition of the summer season, a three-person scramble sponsored by RJ McLeod.
Despite the wind and squally showers there were some fine scores, with countback required to determine the winners.
In the final analysis it was a trio from the home club, Pauline Craig, David R Craig and Stuart Greig, who took the win after a fine round of 69 which included birdies at the fourth, ninth and 13th gave them a nett 60.
Another team from Reay, Malcolm Thomson, Willie Paton and Ian Ross, finished runners-up after four birdies at the fourth, sixth, ninth and 18th helped them to a round of 67 for nett 60.
Lybster duo Colin and Mike Henstridge combined with Laura Bain of the home club to finish third on nett 61 after a fine round of 71 which included birdies at the second, fifth, 12th and 18th.
The George Coupar Challenge was also played in tough conditions but Donald Mowat mastered them the best to win with a solid score of 33 Stableford points following a round of 86.
Kenny Farmer Jnr had a steady round but was left to rue a non-scoring hole at the 18th as he took second place on 31 points.
Jack Johnstone was third on 29, with a trio of players – Graeme Fryett, Kenny Farmer Snr and Jimmy Meiklejohn – next best on 28.
The seniors had their winter prizegiving, having been competing for the past six months in North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action. There were two trophies up for grabs, the overall Stableford trophy and the eclectic trophy, and both were claimed by Alex Anderson.
Anderson won the overall Stableford trophy with a fine six-round aggregate score of 234, ahead of Stuart Greig and David A Craig who both finished on 224.
In the eclectic competition he took the spoils with an excellent score of 58.5, ahead of Malcolm Thomson on 60.3 and Stuart Greig on 62.6.
