Reay of sunshine as women win Caithness and Sutherland Intercounty Match at Dornoch

Reay Golf Club ladies were victorious in the Caithness and Sutherland Intercounty Match at Royal Dornoch.

The team of Sarah Meiklejohn, Carol Paterson, Pam Bain and Rebecca Munro claimed the nett trophy by a single point.

After 14 rounds of competitive action, the Abbot Risk Consulting summer stableford competition reached an exciting climax.

A birdie at the ninth helped Jimmy Meiklejohn win the final round with a fine tally of 37 points. Rodney Grant played steady golf to take second place on 36 points, while Donald Mowat birdied the sixth on his way to 34 points and a share of third place with Lee Malcolm who birdied the fifth.

However the real drama was further down the leaderboard, long time leader Andy Bain mustered 33 points helped by a birdie at the sixth, but Jason Norwood came in with 32 points which was enough to catapult him to the top spot in the overall standings. Birdies at the sixth and crucially the 16th and 17th meant he improved his six round aggregate score to take overall victory in the summer cup on a score of 219. Jimmy Meiklejohn and Andy Bain were next best on 217.

The Round 12 of the Ladies Summer Stableford was won by Jacqui Greig who posted matching halves of 45 for 39 stableford points. Pam Bain birdied the 4th on her way to 38 points and a share of second place with Alison Ross. Pauline Craig took fourth place on 37 points after a steady round of 87.

The Parry Trophy was won by David Dunbar with a fabulous round of 69 for nett 65.

The Nuvia August Medal was won by Donald Mowat on countback after finishing level with Willie Steven on nett 69.
