Reay's club championship finals night was the culmination of weeks of hard-fought competition on the fairways and greens, with prizes in both the gents' and ladies' sections up for grabs.

Eleanor Tunn, who has been in fine form of late, took the ladies' scratch prize in a good contest with Carol Paterson, while in the ladies' handicap competition another player who has been on a hot streak, Pauline Craig, edged out Joy Fraser for the trophy.

The gents' scratch prize went down to the wire, with defending champion Gregor Munro succumbing to Brent Munro on the final green. It caps an extremely productive month for Brent who has also bagged the Reay Open and was a member of Reay's successful Wilson Cup team at Thurso.

In the gents' handicap final Lee Malcolm prevailed over David Mackay, while Donald Mowat edged out Alex Anderson by a score of 2&1 to win the senior championship.

In routine club business there was a double celebration for Malcolm Thomson in the latest North Point Senior Stableford action after he topped the standings on 39 points and bagged the nearest-the-pin prize, a bottle of gin from the sponsors.

Murdo Macdonald played steady golf to take second on 35 points, with Kenny Farmer Jnr and John Brock next best on 34.

In round nine of the ladies' summer Stableford, Pauline Craig maintained her rich vein of form to finish top of the standings on 41 points after an excellent round of 86.

Pars at the fifth, 11th and 15th helped Heather Campbell to second place on 39 points, while a tidy round of 80 was good enough to give Carol Paterson third place on 37.

Rebecca Munro was edged into fourth on countback after she also posted 37 points, but she did have the consolation of a couple of fine birdies at the fourth and sixth holes. Eleanor Tunn also birdied the fourth on her way to 36 points and fifth place.

Two rounds of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup were played this week, with Stuart Greig triumphing in round seven after a solid round of 83 for 35 points. Willie Paton took second on 33 points after a round of 88, with Donald Mowat next best on 31.

Leslie Malcolm won round eight with an excellent haul of 39 points which included a brace of birdies at the fifth and sixth holes.

Kenny Farmer Snr recovered well from a wobble on the front nine to take second place on 34 points, ahead of Jimmy Meiklejohn on countback after he also scored 34 points during a round which included 10 pars.

This weekend will see the gents competing in the Pilkington Cup, while the ladies will be playing in their Summer Marathon competition.
