Saturday saw Reay hosting its annual Safari Open, sponsored by NDL. Players competed in teams of four, with the three best nett scores counting towards the team total.

There were some excellent scores on a day when a tricky wind and some fierce rough presented a stiff challenge for the players.

Coming out on top were the Swingers, composed of Mollie O’Brien, Brent Munro, Lee Malcolm and Leslie Malcolm, with an excellent winning total of 207.

Leslie Malcolm led the way with a nett score of 66 following a round of 80, and he also secured the Murray McGlasson Quaich for the best individual performance on the day.

He was backed up by Lee Malcolm with a nett 70 and Brent Munro who fired a fine round of 72 for nett 71 to secure the win.

Mumpy's Mates – Cammie Ross, John O’Brien, Bruce Mackay and Donald Mowat – were edged into second place by a single shot after they finished on 208. Bruce Mackay led the way with a fine nett 68, which was backed up by a fine nett 69 for John O’Brien and a solid nett 71 from Mowat.

The Caddyshacks – Ian Ross, Willie Paton, Pete McCartney and Malcolm Thomson – finished third on 209. An excellent nett 69 from McCartney was complemented by a pair of nett 70s from Paton and Thomson to secure the final podium place.

Outwith the team prizes there were notable performances from Mike Halliday, who fired an excellent round of 86 for nett 67 despite a 10 at the sixth hole, and Thurso’s Steven Lowe, Andy Bain and Colin Paterson, who all shot rounds of nett 68.

In other club business Pauline Craig triumphed in the ladies' Medal Winners' Cup after halves of 43 and 44 helped to an impressive round of 87 for nett 70 in windy conditions. Sarah Meiklejohn finished a stroke behind on nett 71, with Carol Paterson third on nett 72.

In the latest North Point Senior Stableford action Sandy Chisholm took the win with an excellent tally of 42 points, ahead of Willie Williamson and David R Craig who both finished on 38. Fred Groves was next best on 36.

In the latest round of the Autumn Nine-Hole Stableford, Arthur Paton birdied the fifth on his way to a winning score of 19 points, ahead of David A Craig and Colin Paterson on 17 and Andrew Taylor on 16.

This Saturday will see players competing in the Split Stane Texas Pairs challenge.
