Reay Golf Club: Struthers heads final leaderboard as Brock takes Stableford trophy

Reay Golf Club's North Point Distillery summer senior competitions came to an end with Colin Struthers heading the final leaderboard with an excellent 39 Stableford points.

A pair of excellent birdies at the 17th and 18th holes proved crucial in the final analysis as he pipped Stuart Greig and Jack Johnstone on countback after both finished on 38 points.

Greig managed a fine birdie at the 14th, while a fine run of pars on the front nine provided the foundation of Johnstone’s round. A strong finish saw David A Craig take fourth place on 37 points.

In the overall standings, John Brock took the Stableford trophy with an impressive eight-round aggregate score of 310, ahead of Jack Johnstone on 307 and Sandy Chisholm on 306.

Countback was required to determine the destination of the Eclectic trophy with Stuart Greig, Malcolm Thomson and Sandy Chisholm all finishing on a score of 61. Greig got the nod once the calculations had been completed.

The final round of the Autumn Nine-Hole was won by Malcolm Thomson with 17 Stableford points, a birdie at the fourth helping him to the victory.

Pete McCartney took second place on 14, while a birdie at the final hole helped Willie Williamson take third place on countback ahead of three other players on 13 points.

Iain Dunnett won the overall competition with a fine two-round aggregate of 40 Stableford points, ahead of Willie Paton on 39, and Arthur Paton and David R Craig who both finished on 35.

In the Split Stane Texas Pairs competition, Alex Anderson and Murdo Macdonald combined to fire birdies at the fifth, 13th and 14th on their way to a winning score of 69 for nett 61.

David R Craig and Pauline Craig took second place on countback after a fine round of 72 for nett 63 which included a birdie at the 14th.

Jacqui and Stuart Greig also fired a round of 72 for nett 63 to finish third, with a birdie at the 16th providing the highlight.

This Saturday sees the club host an open competition for ladies and gents sponsored by North Point Distillery, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.
