Reay Golf Club: Macdonald takes silverware in rescheduled October Medal

Saturday saw the ladies at Reay competing for the rescheduled October Medal, with Tricia Macdonald producing a fantastic round of 80 for nett 63 to take the silverware.

Her halves of 41 and an inward 39 were helped by a brace of birdies at the 11th and the 14th where she chipped in for a four.

Pam Bain was best of the rest, finishing ahead of Carol Paterson on countback after both posted rounds of nett 71.

Bain’s total came after a round of 81 which included a fine birdie at the sixth. Steady halves of 42 and 41 gave Paterson a round of 83 and third place.

The gents were competing in round one of the Winter Eclectic and a fine round of 81 for nett 66 saw Leslie Malcolm top the standings.

A birdie at the 13th helped Malcolm Thomson to a round of 79 for nett 69 and second place.

Lee Parnell maintained his recent fine form, firing 14 pars and four bogeys on his way to the lowest gross score of the day, a 73, which also gave him a nett 69.

Stuart Greig birdied the sixth on his way to a round of 84 for nett 71 and fourth place.

The latest round of the North Point senior Stableford competition saw some excellent scoring, with Stuart Greig coming out on top on an impressive tally of 39 points courtesy of a round of 80. Despite having one non-scoring hole, Jock Eunson still managed to take second place with a fine tally of 36.

Sandy Chisholm, with a birdie at the sixth, and Carol Paterson, with a birdie at the fifth, were next best after both finished on 35 points.

Colin Struthers bagged the nearest-the-pin prize, a bottle of rum from the sponsors.

The latest action in the Winter League Stableford saw Arthur Paton top the standings with a spectacular score of 42 points, ahead of Gavin Gunn who birdied the fourth and 14th on his way to an impressive 41 points. Pauline Craig took third on 39 ahead of Stuart Greig on 38.

This weekend will see the Reay ladies competing in round two of their winter Stableford, while the gents will be playing a Texas Pairs competition on Saturday. On Sunday, ladies and gents will be playing for points in the next round of the winter league Stableford.
