The latest action at Reay saw the ladies competing in round two of their summer Stableford competition, with the leaderboard topped by Lora Jane Kelly with an impressive haul of 37 points.

Kelly’s winning score was based on a solid performance on the front nine, where she played the par-three holes particularly well, and a good run on the closing holes to secure the victory.

Heather Campbell has had a good start to the season and she took second place on 34 points, with a couple of excellent pars on the inward half helping her along the way.

Carole Cameron took third place on 33 points and she also did her best work on the front nine in a solid round overall. Pauline Craig and Alison Ross were next best after both posted scores of 31 points.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Malcolm Thomson pipped Sandy Chisholm on countback after both fired excellent rounds for 40 points.

Thomson’s score came courtesy of a fine round of 75 which included a birdie at the sixth. Chisholm’s tally was after a solid round of 84 made up of halves of 40 and 44.

Round one of the Dunnett Cup was a day to remember for youngster Owen Bain, who produced a spectacular round of 81 for nett 61 to top the standings. His halves of 40 and 41 included eight pars, and his handicap is sure to come tumbling down over the summer months if he maintains his current rate of progress.

Another youngster, Dylan Mackenzie, took fifth place after a round of 84 for nett 67, while Donald Mowat was sixth after also carding a nett 67 following a solid round of 82.

The second and final round of the Dunnett Cup is scheduled for Sunday, May 14.

This weekend sees the ladies playing for the Centenary Bowl on Saturday, while players will also have the opportunity to play in open competitions hosted by Thurso and Wick on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
