Reay Golf Club: Farmer on top on tough day for scoring

Saturday at Reay saw the gents competing in the Nuvia April Medal. On a tough day for scoring, Kenny Farmer Snr came out on top with a solid round of 89, composed of halves of 44 and 45 for a winning tally of nett 69.

Lee Malcolm birdied the ninth and 14th on his way to second place after posting a round of 78 for nett 70. John O’Brien also bagged a brace of birdies, at the fifth and 17th, on his way to a score of 77 for nett 72 and third place.

Gregor Munro fired the best gross score of the day, a fine 73 which also included two birdies at the fifth and sixth holes.

The ladies were also in April Medal action, with club captain Carol Paterson mastering the conditions best to take the silverware after a solid round of 84 for nett 73.

Eleanor Tunn posted the best gross score of the day with a fine 78 for nett 76, while Jane Mackenzie continued her steady progress to finish third on nett 79.

On Sunday the gents were in action in the Corfin Bogey where the format saw them use their handicap allowance to compete against the course in a matchplay form of the game.

In the final analysis, a hat-trick of birdies at the sixth, 14th and 15th helped Brent Munro to the trophy after a round of 72 saw him finish tied with the course.

Michael Smith was edged into second place on countback after he also finished tied with the course but he did have the consolation of three birdies at the fifth, 13th and 15th during his round.

Gregor Munro completed the podium places after a birdie at the sixth helped him finish four down on the course.

Meanwhile, in the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Billy Moore finished atop the leaderboard on 34 points with a three at the final hole proving crucial in the final analysis.

Malcolm Thomson took second place after a birdie at the sixth helped him to 33 points, with Stuart Greig and Willie Williamson next best after they both finished on 31. Thomson also bagged the nearest-the-pin prize for his fine tee shot at the 15th hole.

This weekend sees Reay hosting the ladies Navcommsta fixture on Saturday, while the gents will be competing in round one of the Dunnett Cup on Sunday.
