Reay Golf Club: Craig emerges victorious in August Medal competition
The weekend action at Reay saw the ladies competing for their August Medal, and it was Pauline Craig who emerged victorious after a fine round of 90 for nett 71 in blustery conditions.
Rebecca Munro paired halves of 43 and 41 for a round of 84 which was good enough for nett 72 and the runner-up spot. Jacqui Greig was third following a round of 96 for nett 73, with Carol Paterson taking fourth after a round of 86 for nett 74.
Round 10 of the ladies' Stableford competition saw some good scores posted, with a solid front nine from Carole Cameron setting her up for victory with a tally of 39 points.
Rebecca Munro recovered from a slow start to cover the back nine in 39 shots, which helped her to take second place on 37 points.
Carol Paterson also finished on 37 points, with a pair of birdies at the second and sixth holes providing the highlights of her round. Joy Fraser did her best work on the front nine as she also finished on a tally of 37 points.
In round 11 of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup, Jimmy Meiklejohn produced a very tidy scorecard which included 12 pars on his way to 38 Stableford points and first place.
David R Craig had halves of 41 and 45 on his way to 35 points and second place, with Tim Hawes taking third on 34 points following a round of 87.
With three rounds to go, Andy Bain holds the overall lead on a six-round aggregate of 217, ahead of Jimmy Meiklejohn on 213 and Leslie Malcolm on 212.
In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Stuart Greig fired a round of 83 to top the standings on 35 points. Colin Struthers fired birdies at the sixth and 15th on his way to 32 points and second place.
Sandy Chisholm, Malcolm Thomson and Alistair Gunn were next best on 32. Pete Barker won the nearest-the-pin prize, a bottle of spirits courtesy of the sponsors.
It was also a productive weekend for a couple of Reay players playing in other open events in the Highlands. Eleanor Tunn won the scratch prize in the Tain Ladies' Open with a sublime round of four under par, equalling the course record.
Tom Ross finished runner-up in the Stromness Open after losing out in a play-off, but he did have the consolation of firing the first hole in one of his golfing career at the 15th.
This weekend will see members playing in the Thurso Ladies' Open, and the gents' Old Pulteney Open in Wick.
