Reay Golf Club: Club captain is triumphant in December Medal

After a period of inactivity due to some wintry weather, players were back in competitive action at Reay Golf Club.

Club captain Andy Bain was triumphant in the gents' December Medal after an excellent round of 75 for nett 67.

A brace of birdies at the tough second and short 18th helped Bain to halves of 39 and 36, which gave him a one-shot victory ahead of Leslie Malcolm.

The in-form Malcolm’s nett 68 came from a fine round of 82 which included a birdie at the 13th.

Willie Paton claimed third place when a round of 83, including a birdie at the 15th, gave him a nett 70.

Don A Mackay fired matching halves of 38 for a score of 76 for nett 71, giving him fourth place.

Bruce Mackay was pushed into fifth place on countback after he also finished on nett 71 following a round of 87.

Bruce Mackay did not have long to wait for a victory of his own after he topped the standings on countback in the latest round of the Winter League Stableford with an impressive haul of 39 points. A birdie at the 13th provided the highlight.

Kenny Farmer Snr took second place after he also finished on 39 points following a steady round of 87.

Graeme Fryett had to settle for third place after a steady front nine provided the foundation for his score of 39. Cammie Ross took fourth place when a round of 78 gave him 37 points.

In the overall standings, Jimmy Meiklejohn leads the way on a four-round aggregate score of 147, ahead of Sandy Chisholm and Jack Johnstone who are both on 138.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Don A Mackay birdied the 16th on his way to a winning score of 38 points following an excellent round of 73.

Willie Williamson put in a steady performance to take second place on countback on 37 points.

Birdies at the eighth and 16th helped Alex Anderson to third place after he also finished on 37 points, a tally matched by Stuart Greig who took fourth after a solid round of 81.

In the overall standings Stuart Greig leads the way on a six-round aggregate score of 221, ahead of Alex Anderson on 210, and Colin Struthers on 206.

This Saturday will see the Reay ladies competing in the third round of their winter Stableford competition, while the gents will be playing in round three of their winter eclectic. On Sunday all players will be able to compete in the Winter League Stableford competition.

Entries are also being taken for the Ronnie Campbell Open, scheduled for Thursday, December 28. Further details can be found on the club's social media channels.

Billy Ferries (Tain) and Brent Munro (Reay) returned the best gross score of the day, 75, in the North Golf Winter Alliance fixture held in difficult conditions at Wick on Sunday. Ferries had the better inward half.

Moira McBeath (Thurso) won the ladies' competition.
