Members of Reay Golf Club's senior section had an early festive celebration as they competed for glory in a nine-hole Texas Scramble in teams of three.

Playing holes one to seven, and then 17 and 18, proved no problem to the winning trio of Kenny Farmer Snr, Malcolm Clasper and Colin Struthers who posted an excellent winning score of 34 for nett 28, with a hat-trick of birdies at the sixth, seventh and 17th proving decisive.

Carol Paterson, John Brock and Donald Mowat had to settle for second place on countback after recording a fine score of 32 for nett 28, with a brace of birdies at the fourth and sixth helping them to their tally.

Birdies at the fifth and 18th helped Fred Groves, Graham Harness and Willie Williamson to take third place on nett 29 after a score of 33. Willie Williamson claimed the nearest-the-pin prize, a bottle of spirits from sponsor North Point Distillery.

Following the scramble, competitors gathered in the Station Hotel in Thurso for a Christmas lunch.

In the latest Winter League Stableford action, Simon Harper posted an excellent score of 40 points in wet and windy conditions. His winning tally came courtesy of a round of 75 which included a birdie at the fifth hole.

A birdie at the 18th helped Donald Mowat to second place on 33 points following a round of 88. Kenny Farmer Snr and Pauline Craig were next best after both finished on 32 points.

In the overall standings, Donald Mowat leads the way on a five-round aggregate score of 162, ahead of Pauline Craig on 161 and David R Craig on 160.

This Saturday sees the club holding a 12-hole Christmas scramble where the wearing of seasonal jumpers is encouraged.

On December 28 the club will be hosting the Ronnie Campbell Open. Details for entry can be found on the club's social media.
