There has been limited on-course action at Reay in the past week due to the wet and windy weather, but a number of hardy souls took the course on Saturday for the playing of the ladies' and gents' March medals.

There were some excellent scores in the gents' medal despite squally showers working their way across the course during the day.

Andy Bain fired an excellent round of 75, made up of halves of 37 and 38, to take the spoils on nett 67. A birdie at the final hole proved crucial in the final analysis, allowing Bain to pip Donald Mowat to the prize after he also carded a nett 67.

Mowat’s score came courtesy of a fine round of 82 which included a birdie at the 15th hole.

Willie Steven fired a brace of birdies at the ninth and 10th holes on his way to an impressive round of 80 for nett 68.

Cammie Ross took fourth place after a round of 78 for nett 70, with a birdie at the 13th providing the highlight.

Willie Paton was also on the birdie trail, with his coming at the 15th, which helped him to a round of 85 for nett 71.

The ladies' medal became a test of endurance after some particularly nasty showers hit the links, and for Alison Ross it was a triumph over adversity as she was the only player in the field to return a score to take the silverware.

Weather permitting, this weekend will see the ladies playing in round three of their winter Stableford competition, while the gents will be in winter eclectic action on Saturday. On Sunday ladies and gents will be able to compete in the latest round of the winter league Stableford.
