REAY Golf Club hosted its mixed open on August 4 when 12 couples battled round on a very breezy day with the conditions meaning some players found themselves playing from new areas of the course.

The strong wind did not faze the pairing of Carole Cameron and Fred Groves (both Reay) who cruised round in 80, securing the winner’s place with an excellent nett 70 in this handicap competition.

They were closely followed by previous year’s scratch winners Val Balfour (Dunbar, formerly Wick) and Donald Mowat (Reay) nett 72; with second handicap pairing Maureen and George Johnston (Wick) on nett 73.5.

The scratch trophy went to Lybster pair Lorna McMillan and John Gunn, with a gross 82.
