Rain fails to dampen spirits at Caithness Pony Club event

Despite very wet weather conditions at the weekend Caithness branch of the Pony Club held its first competition since lockdown.
Entries were good for both the showjumping and arena event with three new members coming forward to take part. Saturday's competition, held at the indoor school in Halkirk, included qualifiers for the Scottish spring festival final to be held at the national equestrian centre next April.
Young Rachel MacGregor won the lead rein showjumping competition and was delighted to receive a rosette holder made in the Pony Club colours, donated by Judith and Molly Miller, Bilbster.
Branch district commissioner Debbie Pottinger, who took up the post in August, said: "It was good to see people getting out to events again and despite the rain spirits were high. I think everyone had a great time and the horses jumped well."
The showjumping phase was set up in the indoor school, while the cross country type fences were built in the outdoor area. Competition in the arena eventing proved exciting with some of the younger competitors keen to make tight turns and return speedy times even in the continual rain.
