The latest action at Reay saw players competing in round eight of the winter league stableford in dry and breezy conditions on Saturday.

It was still a significant improvement on the gusty conditions that kept many away the previous week, though, and despite the wind that was present scoring was generally good.

Donald Mowat and Alex Anderson finishing tied at the summit of the leaderboard on 38 points, with Mowat taking first place on count back.

Mowat’s winning score came courtesy of an excellent round of 81 – made up of halves of 41 and 40 – with a fine birdie at the final hole proving decisive for him to take top prize.

Anderson also managed a birdie, his coming at the 15th, but a non-scoring hole at the 17th proved costly to his chances.

Ian Ross took third place after an excellent round of 79 gave him a score of 37 points.

For him, it was a birdie at the 14th providing the highlight of his round.

Jimmy Meiklejohn managed a brace of birdies at the ninth and 13th holes on his way to 36 points.

That was a points tally matched by Simon Harper, who also managed to record two birdies at the 10th and 13th holes.

A good front nine by Jack Johnstone provided the foundation for his round, and he was another who would eventually finish on 36 points.

In the overall standings David R Craig and Kenny Farmer Senior currently lead the way, having amassed six-round aggregate scores of 196.

Meanwhile, in the latest North Point Senior Stableford action it was Colin Struthers who took the win after firing a superb round of 77 for 44 stableford points.

The in-form Carol Paterson, who had won the previous two stableford events and was looking to make it a hat trick of triumphs, had to settle for a second place finish this time around.

That earned Paterson 38 points after a steady round of 80, while Fred Groves finished in third place after a round of 79 gave him 37 points.

Malcolm Clasper played the par three holes strongly to take fourth place on 36 points.

In the overall standings Malcolm Clasper leads the way on a six-round aggregate score of 196, ahead of Sandy Chisholm on 191 and Kenny Farmer Senior on 189.

This weekend sees a slight change of pace as the ladies and gents will be vying for glory in their respective December medal competitions.
