Mixed open prizes go to Reay and Lybster pairs

Reay hosted its mixed open on Sunday in sunny conditions, with a healthy entry of pairs from across the county.

The nett prize was won by the Lybster duo of Lynsey and Robert Macleod with an impressive score of 92 for nett 69, with Tricia Macdonald and James Henderson taking second place on countback after a steady round of 88 for nett 72.

Steve Efemey and Carol Paterson, and Sally and Roy Page were next best after they also posted rounds of nett 72.

The scratch prize was won by the Reay duo of Rebecca and Brent Munro, who have both been in fine form over the summer months, with a fine round of 77.

The ladies were in action in their summer marathon, a Stableford competition played over 27 holes. It was the first time in 24 years that the competition had been held, and it was Jane Mackenzie who prevailed with a fantastic score of 55 points.

Pauline Craig took second place on countback on 54 points, ahead of Su Hawes in third.

Nicola Campbell is another player who has enjoyed a profitable summer, and she added to her recent victories by winning the Stuart Rosebowl with a fine round of nett 68.

Carol Paterson birdied the 13th on her way to a nett 69 and second place, ahead of Pam Bain who also finished on nett 69 after birdies at the sixth and 14th holes. Lora Jane Kelly fired a steady round of nett 70 to finish in fourth.

Star performer in the Donald Campbell Trophy was Cammie Ross, who fired matching halves of 36, which included a birdie at the 10th, for a round of 72 and nett 63.

Willie Steven posted an excellent round of 78 for nett 66, with a birdie at the fourth providing the highlight. A strong finish to his round saw Willie Paton pip Donald Mowat to third place on countback after both posted fine rounds of nett 69.

Michael Smith produced a birdie blitz in the latest round of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup on his way to a winning score of 39 points. His birdies at the third, sixth, 13th, 14th and 17th helped him win by a single point from Andy Bain, who birdied the 14th on his way to 38 points.

A good inward half helped Rodney Grant take third place on 37, with a birdie at the 13th helping Andrew Taylor to a score of 35 points and fourth place.

In the latest action in the North Point Senior Stableford competition, Malcolm Clasper birdied the fifth and 11th on his way to 38 points and first place. A birdie at the 13th helped Jack Johnstone take second place on 37, with Willie Williamson and Kenny Farmer Snr both finishing a point further back on 36.

This weekend sees the club host its Junior Open on Sunday, sponsored by TD Gall Ltd.
