Miller and Swanson are fastest in Wick and Thurso time trials
The warmest Thursday night so far this summer (17C) saw seven cyclists attending Wick Wheelers’ latest 10-mile time trial.
With the reasonable conditions, all were close to their best times this year.
In an impressive performance on his first appearance this season at a Wick time trial, Stuart Swanson clocked 25 min 45 sec on a road bike with no aero advantages.
Iain Nicholson offered some competition to Danny Miller but was still just over a minute behind in second place.
Times: 1 Danny Miller, 23 min 28 sec; 2 Iain Nicholson, 24.30; 3 Stuart Swanson, 25.45; 4 Alistair Miller, 26.30; 5 Derek Fraser, 27.00; 6 Charlie Mackay, 29.47; 7 Lisa Coghill, 32.20.
Stuart Swanson was again on good form to win Caithness Cycling Club’s weekly 10-mile time trial with a time of 24 min 58 sec to score a personal best by 11 seconds, while Alistair Miller had another fine ride, just 25 seconds in arrears.
Conditions were the best for many weeks, with a 10 mph westerly breeze and a temperature of 13gC, and every rider posted a season’s best time. They were led by Martine Hughes with an improvement of 96 seconds, Gary Angus (57 seconds) and Lorna Stanger (41 seconds).
Times: 1 Stuart Swanson, 24 min 58 sec; 2 Alistair Miller, 25.23; 3 Lorna Stanger, 27.11; 4 Gary Angus, 27.21; 5 Roger Broughton, 27.26; 6 Alasdair Washington, 28.27; 7 Martine Hughes, 33.04.
Roger Broughton has now forged ahead in the Handicap League with 38 points, followed by Alistair Miller with 37 and Gary Angus, Stuart Swanson and Martine Hughes, all with 32 points.
