THE opening two rounds of the Winter League Stableford at Reay were played in glorious autumn sunshine.

The conditions were clearly to the liking of Alex Mackay who topped the leader board on both days and bagged a hole in one to cap a very productive weekend on the course.

Round one saw Mackay compile a fantastic tally of 42 points, with a round made up of halves of 38 and 42.

After an indifferent start to the back nine, he got his round back on track with his hole in one which came at the par-three 15th.

His dream shot came courtesy of a beautifully struck seven iron which arrowed its way to the hole through the teeth of a strong headwind.

Mackay’s first hole in one of his golfing career was also the first competitive ace of the year at Reay.

Taking second spot behind his dad was Ian A. Mackay who was embarking on the defence of his Winter League Stableford crown.

A steady a score of 37 points was amassed courtesy of halves of 41 and 42.

Colin Munro took third place on countback with a score of 36 points, with birdies at the sixth and 12th holes the highlights of his round.

Donald Mowat also managed to accumulate a tally of 36, with a birdie at the sixth the highlight of a consistent round.

During round two Alex Mackay’s score of 39 points was good enough to secure victory by a margin of two from Cammie Ross who is enjoying an Indian summer on the fairways.

Kenny Farmer took third spot on 36, with Leslie Malcolm a point further back on 35.

This weekend sees a return to Winter League Stableford action, with round three scheduled for tomorrow.
