TWO closely contested finals concluded this year’s ladies Bronze Trophy and the club championship at Wick.

Early afternoon saw Catherine Mcleod and Nancy O’Brien, the Bronze finalists, battling a strong north easterly-wind on the front nine with neither player going more than one up.

All-square at the turn, neither player managed to get more than a hole up.

A superb approach shot on the 16th proved decisive for Catherine as she won the hole to get her nose in front. Nancy put up a good fight to halve the 17th but a half on the final hole was enough to clinch victory for Catherine.

The windy conditions continued for the club championship later in the day, which was a repeat of last year’s final between Dee Macangus and defending champion Marion Mackay.

A good birdie against the wind on the fifth saw Dee go one up but a par on the next saw Marion bring the match back to parity.

A run of pars on 8, 9 and 10 saw Dee go ahead, only for Marion to come back again to bring the match all-square by the 14th. A good par on the 16th for Marion put her one up and that was how the match finished.

Monthly medal / club championship/ Bronze Round 3 – 1 C. Mcleod 94 (25) nett 69. 2 D. Cormack 87 (13) 71. 3 C. Place 87 (13) 74.

July medal – 1 M. Sinclair 92 (24) 68. 2 H. Mclean 91 (16) 75 (better inward half). 3 D. Cormack 88 (13) 75.
