Laura retains Thurso scratch title as Fiona takes handicap honours

The Thurso ladies' club championships were decided recently with Laura Durrand retaining the scratch title and newcomer Fiona Macleod becoming the handicap champion.

Laura was up against daughter Emma in the scratch final and both started well. However, after a close encounter, Laura won on the 15th hole.

The handicap final saw Fiona taking on Trish Cowie, with Fiona receiving three extra shots due to the handicap difference.

There was never more than a shot between the players on the first nine holes, but Fiona went on to win on the 15th.

Seventeen ladies competed in the August Medal. Morag Mackay was the winner with a nett 72 and runner-up was Jane Grant, also with a nett 72.

Third place went to Alison Campbell with a nett 73.

Eighteen took part in the August Extra Medal. The winner was Rachel Durrand with a nett 63 and Isobel Mackay was runner-up with a nett 67.

Hilary Geddes (nett 76) took third place.

In a competition for medal winners from 2021, Moira McBeath was victorious with a nett 76. Runner-up was Aileen Simmonite (nett 79) and third place went to Trish Cowie (nett 83).

On the same night, some ladies played an 18-hole Stableford sweep.

Winner was Fiona Macleod with 39 points, runner-up was Alison Campbell with 36 points and third place went to Fiona Calder on 34 points.
