Hole-in-one helps Gregor to victory in Reay strokeplay championship

The gents strokeplay championship at Reay reached a spectacular conclusion with the fourth and final round played in firm and fast conditions.

Gregor Munro won the scratch trophy with a two-round aggregate score of 141, and had double cause for celebration after he fired a hole-in-one at the 9th on his way to a score of 70 in round four.

Lee Parnell had to settle for second place in the overall standings on 144, with a fine round of 73 during round four which included birdies at the 10th and 14th. Tom Ross took third place on countback after he matched Parnell’s score of 144.

Evan Sutherland fired the best round four nett score, an excellent 65 following a round of 77 made up of halves of 37 and 40. Andrew Taylor birdied the 9th and 14th on his way to a round of 80 for nett 70 and second place in the nett standings on the day.

In the overall handicap competition it was Leslie Malcolm who took the silverware on a tremendous two-round aggregate score of 130, ahead of Sandy Chisholm on 132 and Alistair Gunn on 134.

Round six of the ladies summer stableford competition was won by the in-form Nicola Campbell, with a run of pars at the 5th, 6th and 7th holes setting her up for a score of 39. Rosalind McQuaker produced a strong inward half to take second place on countback ahead of the steady Su Hawes after both finished on 35 points. A trio of players, Joy Fraser, Carol Paterson and Pauline Craig were next best after all finished on 34.

In the overall ladies summer eclectic standings, Michelle Smith leads the way on a score of 58.7, ahead of Pauline Craig on 59.5 and Heather Campbell on 59.9.

There was some excellent scoring in the President's Salver, with Sandy Chisholm leading the way after a birdie at the 14th helped him to a winning score of nett 64 following a round of 79. Steve Efemey birdied the 16th on his way to a round of 75 for nett 65 and second place, with David Mackay birdieing the 12th as he posted a round of 77 for nett 66.

Youngster Dylan Mackenzie maintained his fine summer form to finish fourth on nett 67 following a round of 82 which included a birdie at the short 15th hole. Lee Parnell, helped by a birdie at the 14th, posted the lowest gross score of the day, a fine 72.

Meanwhile, in the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Willie Williamson posted a fabulous tally of 45 points following a round of 83, made up of halves of 41 and 42.

Murdo Macdonald finished second on 42 points following a steady round of 81, with Jack Johnstone finishing a point further adrift on 41. Malcolm Clasper played steady golf to take fourth place on 38, a score matched by Ian Ross who managed a rare eagle at the 6th hole during his round.

In the overall North Point Senior Stableford standings, Sandy Chisholm leads the way on an eight-round aggregate score of 301, ahead of Jack Johnstone on 298 and Murdo Macdonald on 287.

This Saturday will see the gents competing for glory in one of the highlights of the season, the Reay Open, sponsored by M2 Procurement and Commercial Services.
