Friday evening saw the climax of several weeks of competition with Reay holding its club championship finals night.

History was made in the men’s scratch final with 15-year-old Tyler Gordon becoming Reay’s youngest-ever men’s champion after he defeated the defending champion Brent Munro.

The defending champion fared better in the women’s scratch final, with Eleanor Tunn beating Pam Bain to retain her grasp on the trophy.

The women’s handicap competition produced two first-time finalists with Jane Mackenzie holding her nerve to defeat Heather Campbell for the win.

A steady performance by Malcolm Thomson saw him edge out Gavin Gunn to take the men’s handicap trophy, while Ian Ross bagged the seniors’ competition with an excellent win over Pete McCartney.

Countback was required to determine the winner in the latest round of the Abbott Risk Consulting Summer Cup after both Ian Farquhar and Leslie Malcolm finished on 40 Stableford points.

Farquhar, who was helped by a birdie at the 10th, took the victory – but Malcolm did have the consolation of bagging a couple of birdies of his own at the 15th and 16th holes.

Four birdies, at the fourth, ninth, 13th and 15th, helped Michael Grant to third place on 38 points.

Birdies were also in abundance in the latest round of the North Point Senior Stableford competition, with Willie Steven bagging three at the fifth, sixth and 15th holes on his way to a winning score of 39 points.

A hat-trick of birdies at the ninth, 10th and 16th holes helped Willie and Arthur Paton to second place on nett 64.
