After a busy period on the fairways of Reay, there were only a couple of competitions played during the past week.

The Sandside Challenge Trophy was contested in overcast conditions, but the gloom was lifted by a sparking round of 85 for nett 64 from James Halliday to take the victory.

His round, made up of halves of 43 and 42, included eight pars and it could have been even better but for a couple of poor holes.

The winners' circle was a family affair, with James’s dad, Mike, having to settle for second place after a round of 80 gave him a nett 66. Birdies at the sixth and 16th holes helped the in-form Mike to his tally.

Lee Parnell made a welcome return to form to post the lowest gross score of the day, a fine 72 for nett 67. Parnell was helped by a hat-trick of birdies, at the fourth, 13th and 14th holes.

Kenny Farmer Snr took fourth place after a birdie at the 15th helped him to a round of 83 for nett 68. Bruce Mackay and Grant Maxwell were next best after both posted scores of nett 70.

In the latest action in the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition, David Mackay showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels to win with a score of 38 points from a round of 80.

Sandy Chisholm fired birdies at the seventh and 13th holes on his way to 37 points and second spot. Despite a couple of non-counting holes, Jock Eunson fired a score of 36 points to share third place with David A Craig and Hugh Millar, who managed a birdie at the fifth.

In the overall Senior Stableford standings, Willie Steven still leads on a six-round aggregate score of 235, with Jack Johnstone and Colin Struthers in hot pursuit on 233 and 232 respectively.

This Saturday the course hosts the North Point Distillery Open with prizes from the sponsors.
