Greig's 41-point tally secures Evan Sutherland Trophy at Reay

The final summer season action at Reay saw the seniors competing for the Evan Sutherland Trophy, with the results counting towards the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford overall winners and the summer eclectic winner.

The trophy was claimed by Stuart Greig, who fired an excellent round of 76 for 41 points. Colin Struthers finished second, a point behind, after a fine round of 81 gave him 40 points.

Sandy Chisholm claimed third place after a solid round of 80 for 39 points, while Alex Anderson birdied the sixth, 14th and 16th holes to take fourth place on countback after he also amassed 39 points. Bruce Mackay birdied the sixth on his way to 38 points and fifth place.

The scores on the day also had an impact on the overall standings in the Stableford competition, with Colin Struthers' performance good enough to leapfrog him over Willie Steven to claim victory on a six-round aggregate score of 237.

Steven, who put in a late-season surge to top the standings going into the final day, had to settle for second place on 235.

Jack Johnstone took third place overall on 233, but did have the consolation of claiming the prize for the best score in the over-70s age group. Mike Halliday took fourth place overall on 228, with Sandy Chisholm fifth on 227.

Stuart Greig claimed his second trophy of the day as he finished top of the overall eclectic standings with an excellent score of 58.5. Willie Steven again finished as runner-up on 61.1, with defending champion Alex Anderson third on 61.3.

Colin Struthers finished fourth on 61.8, with Sandy Chisholm fifth on 62.4.

In the first competition of the winter season, Steve Efemey pipped Andy Bain to claim the October Medal after both posted fine rounds of nett 67 in blustery conditions.

Efemey got the nod courtesy of his round of 76 made up of 11 pars and seven bogeys. Bain birdied the third and fourth on his way to the lowest gross score of the day with a fine 74.

Colin Munro took third after a birdie at the second helped him to a round of 76 for nett 68, with Murdo Macdonald pipped into fourth on countback as he birdied the final hole on his way to a round of 85 for nett 68.

Wayne Mowat and Sandy Chisholm were next best after both posted rounds of nett 70.

Meanwhile, the Reay "A" team were competing in the rescheduled Ulbster Cup final at Lybster. An excellent performance by Michael Smith, Tom Ross, Brent Munro and Andy Mowat saw Reay "A" defeat Wick "A" and retain the silverware after they moved into an unassailable lead of 10-up with four holes to play.

This Saturday will see the Reay gents competing in the first round of the Winter Eclectic competition, while on Sunday the North Golf Winter Alliance gets under way at Thurso Golf Club.
