THE day started out warm, bright and sunny for Thurso Golf Club’s Ladies’ Open sponsored by Lesley and Billy Bruce and Mhairi McBeath, of McBeath’s Jewellers.

However, by the time the competition was completed, a change of clothing was the order of the day.

Despite the conditions, some excellent scores were returned.

In the handicap section, Jane Grant was the clear winner with a nett 67.

Catherine McLeod (Wick) took second on nett 70.

Third spot went to Alison Campbell on nett 74, two shots better than Marion Mackay (Wick), Pam Bain (Reay) and Anne Simmonite who, after countback, finished in the above order.

Eileen Manson took first scratch with a 74 – two shots ahead of Reay’s Eleanor Tunn.

Deirdre McAngus (Wick) was third scratch along with having the longest drive in the silver division.

Longest drive in the bronze division went to Moira McBeath.

Sarah Meiklejohn took the prize for the 36 handicappers while Lucy MacKay (Durness) won the nearest-the-pin prize on the 14th hole.
