Good scoring as Thurso ladies take advantage of the weather

Over July and August the Thurso ladies have been lucky with the weather on a Tuesday and this has resulted in some very good scoring, with many ladies reducing their handicaps during the past few weeks.

The July Medal was won by Laura Durrand with a gross 69, nett 67, thanks to some steady golf. Birdies at eight, nine, 10, 13, 14 and 16 helped her beat Alice Fidler with a handicap-chopping score of 69 which included a superb two at the 14th.

The July Extra Medal was won by Jane Grant with a 72, beating Aileen Simmonite by the better inward half.

The Killearnan Cup was well attended with 13 pairs. It is the only greensomes competition for the ladies.

Topping the leaderboard were Eileen Manson and Jane Coghill with a fine 67 with pars at two, 13 and 14. One shot adrift in second place was the pairing of Alice Fidler and Karen Hanna on 68, and in third spot on 69 were Laura Durrand and Fiona McLeod, managing to claim a birdie three on the 17th.

Continuing her good form this season, Fiona McLeod won the Mackay Cup with a four-under round of 67. Runner-up was the ladies' captain Alison Campbell with a 71.

The August Medal was won by Anne Simmonite with a steady round of 70, pipping the previous week's runner-up Alison Campbell

This week saw a two for Hilary Geddes on the 12th and a two for Aileen Simmonite on the 14th.

The August Extra Medal was won by one of the club's new ladies, Sandra Rollinson, with an amazing nett 64 which will see her reduce her handicap by four. Alison Campbell was runner-up for the third week on the trot.

There was a two from Laura Durrand on the third and a two from Rachel Durrand on the 12th.
