Professional golf coach and YouTube presenter Peter Finch has been showcasing Thurso's immaculate parkland course as part of a 1000-mile charity challenge.

He is undertaking a charity bike ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation, called A Fairway Down!

Starting at Thurso, the most northerly course on the UK mainland, his 20-day route is due to end at the southernmost, Mullion Golf Club, on Thursday, August 24.

He is visiting a number of other courses along the way and has already raised more than £5600.

He started with an empty golf bag and is accepting donations to build a bag of clubs that will be auctioned off at the end of the challenge.

Finch is a Professional Golfers' Association coach and influencer. There are more than 570,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel on which he uploads tips, drills and advice.

Finch started his end-to-end trip by cycling from John O’Groats to Thurso Golf Club. He played a round of golf as a group of local members watched on, offering advice about the course and donating golf clubs to his cause.

He then cycled down the strath to Helmsdale.

Finch and his team were very complimentary about the Thurso course, which was in excellent condition.

Club secretary Andrew Lannon said: "We were all delighted to welcome Peter and his support team to Thurso Golf Club. He is taking on an epic challenge and raising money for the British Heart Foundation, which is a very worthy cause.

"He was very complimentary about our course, which thanks to our greenkeeper and volunteers is in great condition at the minute, and the weather on the day allowing him to play in shorts and T-shirt topped it off.

"His visit will also hopefully help raise the profile of the club as he has almost 600,000 followers on his social media channels. Everyone at Thurso Golf Club wishes Peter the best for the remainder of his challenge."

On his JustGiving page, Finch says: "We have had a wonderful year so far fundraising for charity and the British Heart Foundation is doing fantastic work to help save the lives of future generations as well as help people right now.

"Golf offers people a chance to stay fit and healthy and yet many lose their lives across the UK and globally when suffering cardiac arrests whilst playing.

"I know from working at golf courses how speed and access to a defibrillator can save lives. We want to help and raise money and awareness around this."
